Reverse Engineering

Reverse engineering at ProCoatingLAB LLC comprises a complete range of services for recreating accurate 3D models, engineering documentation, and manufacturing processes for imported parts, assemblies, and equipment from existing physical samples.

The company uses this approach as part of import-substitution programmes to restore and manufacture wear-resistant components for the oil and gas, power-generation, and aerospace industries.

  • Import substitution: Creating replacements for foreign-made parts that are no longer available or subject to supply restrictions.
  • Geometry restoration: Assessing the wear of an original component and reconstructing its initial dimensions and parameters.
  • Modification: Improving the original component through design changes, customisation, or the selection of alternative materials.

Our main advantage over conventional engineering centres is the integration of reverse engineering with our core expertise in thermal spraying and laser cladding.

The process includes:

  • 3D scanning and modelling: High-precision measurement of a worn or new imported sample and creation of an accurate digital model.
  • Material analysis: Determining the metal’s chemical composition, hardness, and microstructure.
  • Engineering documentation: Preparing a complete set of design and manufacturing documentation in accordance with ESKD standards.
  • Manufacturing and surface enhancement: Producing the component using CNC equipment and applying functional coatings such as tungsten carbide, chromium carbide, and other materials. This allows us not only to reproduce the original part but also to extend its service life.
  • Oil and gas equipment: Rotors for positive-displacement downhole motors, drilling-pump components, and industrial valves.
  • Power generation: Gas- and steam-turbine components and compressor equipment.
  • Mobile repair systems: Participation in projects involving mobile additive-manufacturing and thermal-spraying units, where rapid reverse engineering enables complex equipment to be repaired directly in the field.
